Top Manchester chefs Simon Rogan and Aiden Byrne go head-to-head against each other in a three-part BBC2 ocumentary, which starts on Monday 14 April. Restaurant Wars: The Battle For Manchester is the story of two of the UK’s most creative and passionate chefs who are opening competing, fine dining restaurants in the same city, at the same time, a mere 200 yards apart.
Simon Rogan holds two Michelin stars at his restaurant L’Enclume in Cumbria, currently the Good Food Guide’s best restaurant, knocking The Fat Duck off the top spot. GS Systems client Aiden Byrne remains the youngest chef ever to have been awarded a Michelin star at the age of 21.
Restaurant Wars Rogan’s restaurant at the Midland Hotel, The French by Simon Rogan, and Byrne’s £3m Manchester House opened with Living Ventures boss Tim Bacon.
Filmed over a year in 2013, it shows the duo opening their kitchens and restaurants to the cameras and reveals exactly what it takes to build, open and run a restaurant at the very top level. It explores the world of menu conception, the intricacies of design and build, the difficulties of staffing and training and the passion and pain of culinary genius.
Restaurant Wars: The Battle For Manchester begins on BBC 2 on Monday, April 14.
