Following the announcement that BT Sport is to launch a new package of live European football, the ALMR has identified the move as an opportunity for licensed hospitality sector to promote live sports across its venues.

BT Sport has today announced the details of BT Sport Total, a package containing the newly acquired UEFA Champions League and Europa League matches as well as price decreases for customers remaining on the existing, domestic package and a loyalty discount for existing customers.

ALMR Chief Executive Kate Nicholls said: “Licensed hospitality venues are being given additional choice on the range of live sport they wish to show. The new package of live European games has also been offset by a reduction in price for the original package providing a much-needed sense of transparency and variety for venues.

“The change in rights bundles will mean an additional 223 live fixtures and 49 exclusive midweek matches giving pubs a great chance to spotlight a fantastically competitive season of football featuring the country’s top sides, with the pub the only place to be a part of the action.

“The transfer of matches away from free-to-air channels towards pay-per-view presents pubs and bars with a great opportunity to entice additional customers into their venues during a traditionally quiet part of the week. This is a great opportunity to get customers through our doors and reinforce that message that the pub remains one of the best places to enjoy the best live sports.”
