Leaving the forces can be a difficult transition for a lot of Veterans as the adjustment to Civvy Street can be quite a challenge with many struggling from isolation and loneliness. A great strength of military service is team ethos, sense of comradeship that flows from being part of a group with a common purpose and shared values and with this in mind Jayson and Dan Redshaw established Veterans Garage.
Veterans Garage is a Manchester based project based from Barton’s City Airport set up to aid military veterans in the North West offering ex-servicemen and the local community a social hub to learn new skills, receive support and advice . Recently highlighting the Charities great work on Granada Reports, the story amplified that many of the servicemen and women who come out of the military after years of service, don’t really know how to do adapt and find it hard without support and specialist counselling.
Many Veterans suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and it’s often advised that veterans suffering from PTSD should seek comfort in connecting with others, whether that be civilians or fellow ex-servicemen who can understand the severity of what each have seen in combat. The Garage has specialist counselling available for those wanting to get the support they need.
Located at Manchester’s Barton Airport, Veterans Garage offers a haven for people who need to take the time to relax, find a hobby as well as learn and utilise new skills. North West Veterans are able to spend their time at the garage restoring classic cars and motorcycles, offering a great way to pass the time and alleviate stress and isolation. Within the café and licensed bar it also houses several meeting rooms that can be used by all for local business users that include a monthly membership of £10.00 per person which includes unlimited access to the lounge, ample complimentary parking, discounted hire rates of our meeting rooms and complimentary Wi-Fi, as well as reception services. A great option for sole traders who would like to work from a professional environment and have an impressive setting to meet business contacts.
Along with projects and hobbies to pass the time, there is also an events area which will play home to family fun days, community workshops, aviation shows and even festivals. Creating a local hub, there are those who enjoy taking part in classic car restoration, or just a drop in centre for those who just want to socialise with like-minded people in the café/dining area to wind down and have a chat!
The project itself has been supported by numerous companies up and down the country and GS Systems are proud to be in association with such a great cause!
GS Systems have provided the Veterans Garage with an EPOS system to help with their café/dining area. Niels Nielsen visited the Charity after hearing what a great innovation the Veterans Garage was for the local community. Our systems will allow them to operate smoothly, especially during those busy events!
We are proud to be a part of this fantastic non-profit organisation!
