Here we go again…! A second lockdown is a blow to hospitality venues, and it makes things extremely difficult for both the industry and its suppliers.
Amongst this uncertainty, we thought it would be useful to share with you a couple of lessons learned from the previous lockdown; hopefully these tips will help you to utilise the next four weeks as wisely and positively as possible.
If one thing is clear from lockdown number one, it’s that people can’t wait to get back to their favourite venues as soon as they’re given the go-ahead. So lets cross our fingers, pull together and work towards a busy and successful Christmas and beyond.
1. Keep your Epos system switched on!
Whilst your doors are shut, ensure that you keep your Pos switched on if possible- your system will go into power saver mode and will not use much power. This will ensure that your Pos stays at working temperature, and it will be much more likely to run smoothly when you’re ready to get going again. If you do have to switch it off, ensure that you turn it back on a few days before you trade to ensure all is working properly.
2. Take away & delivery can provide a key source of revenue
Last lockdown, we saw many of our customers offer an extremely successful click & collect/ delivery service for the very first time. Remember, you don’t have to use big platforms with big fees to offer a take-away service. Instead, you can do things manually, or speak to us about integrated online systems that are much more cost effective.
3. Use this time to improve your processes
Technology can save you time and money, so whilst you have a little free time on your hands, you may want to consider implementing new tech. Whether it’s labour scheduling or stock control, now is the best time to make sure you’re working as efficiently as possible whilst keeping close control of your costs. 4. Consider mobile order & pay at table
On the subject of technology… one of the biggest tech-revolutions in the hospitality industry has been the adoption of mobile order and pay at-table. Mobile order and pay apps are great as they provide a safe and fast way to take orders. If you are considering this technology, it is important to consider the following: is this app easy for guests to use? Does it integrate to my epos? Does it have all the features I want (e.g. add tips, upselling..)? 5. Shout about your gift cards!
If your business provides gift cards, then make sure you’re shouting about them! Gift cards present the perfect way for loyal customers to support your business right now as they can be redeemed at any time. As businesses might not be able to have their staff Christmas parties this year, why not set up a marketing campaign advertising your gift cards as a great alternative for employers to reward their staff?
6. Keep your reservation system up to date
Make sure you remember to update your closed periods. Remember, you can cleverly use your system to take deposits or apply special offers. Once a reopening date is announced, spread your good news via social with an embedded booking link.
