Name? Peter Sawer

What is your job title? Support technician

What are your job responsibilities? As the job title suggests I support pretty much every area a customer requires assistance with from the top down. One day I can be meeting with a potential new customer discussing a new system in support of the sales team, the next day I might be on site carrying out a service call. I’m happy to do whatever job is necessary; however, I’m happiest when I’m dealing with customers on a one to one basis where I can project manage their EPOS requirements.

What is your previous experience? As my working life has spanned nearly 40 years I’ve done one or two jobs as you can probably imagine!! The younger lads on the team like to joke that I probably worked on ‘Tills made out of Stone’!!

During the period from leaving grammar school, I started out as an apprentice in the timber trade working my way to foreman by the time I was 22. I then moved into the furniture manufacturing trade as a shop floor manager for eight years before making the decision to change direction completely in my mid thirties. The world was changing, computers were becoming more a part of everyday life, so, I went back to college to learn about electronics and computers, which resulted in the job I’ve had for the last 16 years – that was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.  The ‘on the job’ experience of EPOS I’ve gained over the last 16 years married with the skills of being a foreman and manager in earlier years has stood me in good stead for all aspects of managing projects and supporting customers.

What attributes are essential to do your job? Knowledge of the products, good customer relations, the ability to try every resource possible to solve a problem and a flexible approach to the working day because anything can happen!

What are the biggest challenges in your job? Learning new software and not having enough hours in the day!!

Where have you added value to clients? By using 16 years of EPOS knowledge to solve a problem which could be anything from suggesting a better way of working to creating a report that gives them the information they require from the system.

What are your most enjoyable work experiences? Seeing a system take shape from initial discussion stage to final implementation and seeing the results of how it has helped to improve how the business is run.

What is your best tip to help a clients’ business grow? Keep an eye on your costs, profits and wastage by taking regular reports from the system. This will enable you to see changes and respond to them quicker.
